SOUTHEAST ALASKA SABLEFISH INDUSTRY MEETING

Juneau. . . The Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) will meet with Southeast Alaska
sablefish stakeholders and interested members of the public at the Northern Southeast Regional
Aquaculture Association conference room (1308 Sawmill Creek Road) in Sitka, Alaska between 12:30
p.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 8, 2012 to discuss status of Southeast Alaska inside waters
sablefish stocks.
In addition, NOAA Fisheries Service staff will be in attendance to discuss status of
sablefish stocks in federal waters of the Gulf of Alaska. Individuals unable to attend in person may
participate via teleconference at the following locations:

Douglas - ADF&G Southeast Region office, 802 3rd Street, Douglas, Alaska
Petersburg - ADF&G Petersburg Area office, 16 Sing Lee Alley, Petersburg, Alaska

will meet Saturday, January 28th at 9:00 A.M.

In the city council chambers

Finfish proposals #241 to #344 will be discussed 

 

2012 IPHC Final Recommendations

Staff recommendations for all areas EXCEPT Canada who took an extra 405,000 pounds due to bycatch issues in Alaska and uncertainty with IPHC models.

Recommendations are below and attached in PDF format.

SEASON dates:

March 17th to November 7th 

Regulatory proposals:

Charter halibut area 2C reverse slot limit (U45 inch fish or O68 inch fish): PASSED

Bycatch continued to dominate the meeting, Commissioners expressed interest in continuing to highlight bycatch issues and work with appropriate agencies to address the issue.

IPHC staff to work on mortality estimates for all recreational harvest of released halibut.

IPHC staff will review the slow-up full-down policy for next year.

IPHC staff will evaluate a maximum size limit for the charter halibut fleet in 2C.

2013 meeting, VICTORIA BC January 21st to 25th 2013.

2014 meeting, SEATTLE WA January 20th to 24th 2014.

Re-scheduled Petersburg Advisory Committee Meetings

The Petersburg Fish and Game Advisory Committee is having elections and meeting on January 21, 2012 at the Petersburg City Council Chambers, 6:30 p.m. There are up to 15 seats open for election/re-election. Anyone interested in serving on this committee is encouraged to attend.  Following elections, the Petersburg AC will be discussing upcoming Board of Fisheries Southeast Finfish issues.  If you are interested in any of the issues on the table you are highly encouraged to attend this meeting. As always, this meeting is open to the public.

The Petersburg Fish and Game Advisory Committee is a collection of community members from all user groups that come together and discuss fish and game issues and recommend changes to current regulations. They also represent their community before the Board of Fisheries and Board of Game at board meetings.

The Petersburg Fish and Game Advisory Committee is having a second meeting on January 22, 2012 at the Petersburg City Council Chambers, 6:30 p.m. The Petersburg AC will continue with their discussion of upcoming Board of Fisheries Southeast Finfish issues.  If you are interested in any of the issues on the table you are highly encouraged to attend this meeting. As always, this meeting is open to the public.
